The Hall Foundation is excited to welcome four new Non-Executive Directors, sharpening and deepening the Board’s capabilities.

Who is joining

On 20 July, we welcomed Neeraj Aggarwal, Louise Campbell, Sarah Neill and Katie Thornton to the Board. Between them, the new Directors bring capital stewardship, social sector strategy, impact measurement and systems-change expertise.

Neeraj Aggarwal brings 17 years at the intersection of institutional investment and philanthropic capital deployment. A Director at the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation and formerly of Australian Impact Investments, Neeraj has also led major grant making programs internationally, including a US$100 million disaster recovery fund. His experience strengthens the Board's thinking on how the Foundation's corpus can be harnessed not just for strong financial returns, but for positive social outcomes in its own right.

Louise Campbell is Co-Executive Director of Consulting at Social Ventures Australia, where over 30 years she has helped boards and leadership teams across the social sector define strategy and measure impact — including leading national work on financial wellbeing and economic empowerment. Her experience in governance and systems-level problem-solving speaks directly to the complexity the Foundation navigates in preventing hardship before it takes hold.

Sarah Neill leads Impact and Learning at the Paul Ramsay Foundation, where she works across strategy, impact measurement and learning to strengthen the Foundation’s portfolio of partnerships and investments. With 20 years of experience across philanthropy, public health and government, Sarah brings expertise in evidence-informed decision-making, evaluation and systems change. Her earlier career in public health and government evaluation adds rigour to how the Board understands and tracks the outcomes of its giving.

Katie Thornton brings more than 20 years in investment and product governance, including senior roles at Fidelity International and product oversight experience at AMP Capital and NAB Asset Management. She most recently supported foundations and charitable trusts through Koda Capital's Philanthropy and Social Capital team. Her expertise strengthens the Board's capacity to align capital stewardship with mission.

They join Kristine Anderson, Rachel Findlay and Cathy Hockey, whose continued contribution keeps valuable knowledge and perspective at the table through this period of change.

leadership transition

This year also saw change in the Board's leadership. Anne Schumacher-Carson, who helped shape the Foundation for ten years, the last four as Chair, retired from the Board in March. Kristine Anderson was elected Chair from 1 April. Irene Rusak also stepped down at the end of June, after four and a half years of sharp, generous contribution. We're grateful to Anne and Irene for a decade-plus of judgment and care.

The Hall Foundation Board continues to focus on bringing the whole of its experience to bear on how we help people facing hardship, today and over the long term.
